another storm on the way

Last Sunday was wild as forecast with storm force winds and torrential rain in the west and Thursday is looking like an even stormier day, with 100mph winds forecast for the hills.
The above chart produces the following forecast:
Also the freezing level is up and down like a yo-yo. Wednesday it’s at 900m, rising to above the summits on Thursday which means around 8C at 900m and falling back to 900m on Friday. This is the sort of weather watching you need to do if you’re going out on the hills in winter as temperature fluctuations like that can mean unstable snowpacks and avalanches. Also 100mph winds will shift a lot of snow around so you’ll get cross loading and scouring as well as dangerous build ups of slab, leading to avalanches.
