news from the rough corrie and a new blog

I’ve added a cracking new blog to my reader, Cairngorm Wanderer and lo and behold there is a piece about one of my most favourite places on earth. The Garbh Choire. I have fond memories of crossing the plateau one wild day with Penguin back in ‘97, over The Devil’s Point, Cairn Toul and Sgurr an Lochain Uaine and bailing out before the Wells of Dee. We came down past Lochan Uaine and down the great slabs straight to the front door of the Garbh Choire refuge and spent a wild wild night in there. You could hear the wind roaring up in the corrie then rushing down the glen and hammering into the back of the shelter which moved not a jot! Hessian matting and room on the floor for two I remember. Never forget the sight of Penguin running around outside by headtorch bare arsed chasing his bog roll through the heather! I was so inspired I drew it. The refuge that is. Not Penguin’s …
