munros from the air

It’s not often you get to fly over the summit of your last Munro but that’s exactly what I did on Thursday last week. I had to fly from Glasgow to Stornoway on Flybe for a meeting and am I glad I took my camera! I was glued to the window the whole way. Our route took us across Inchmurrin just west of Conic Hill then over the top of Ben Lomond.
I got a bit lost after that as we were east of Loch Lomond but then I spotted Ben Dorain and Bridge Of Orchy.
We then tracked over Stob Ghabhar and the Blackmount before my eyes popped out of their sockets as we flew over the top of Stob na Broige, my last Munro and a magnificent view of the Buachaille.
After that it was over Kinlochleven
and then west of Ben Nevis
before heading over Fort William and the backdrop of the snow clad mountains.
I started to get lost for a while but then spotted Glen Shiel, looking east to Loch Cluanie
then over the Achnashellach hills
and Ben Alligin and the Torridon giants
before swinging west just south of Ullapool
and out over the Minch and I can’t believe the timing! We overtook the ferry!
The Minch was flat calm and we came in low over the emerald waves and golden sands of the Cob, touching down when it seemed we were about to skim the waves. Possibly the best flight I have ever enjoyed!
